Bay Area New Liberals Endorsements for the SF General Election
With Labor Day fast approaching, we have officially started the 2024 campaign season. Of course that’s a lie and the various 2024 campaigns have been in progress since the moment the previous election was called.
As is standard for pretty much any group involved in politics in San Francisco, we have come up with a list of candidates for local office that we think should receive your vote. We hope that you will adhere to our recommendations slavishly, thus solidifying our iron-fisted grip on the levers of power.
Mayor: London Breed, Daniel Lurie, and Mark Farrell, in any order.
We make this endorsement because Aaron Peskin must not become mayor. Peskin is primarily to blame for SF’s exorbitant rental prices, decay in public safety, and broken bureaucracy.
Breed, Farrell, and Lurie each have positives to recommend them for the top job. But ultimately, their main qualifications are that a vote for them keeps Aaron Peskin far away from the mayor’s office. Hence, we recommend that you vote for all 3 in whatever order you prefer.
Board of Supervisors District 1: Marjan Philhour
Marjan has on the ground experience running a business in SF and knows how broken city governance is. She is staunchly in favor of building more housing and making sure that the streets are safe and clean. Hence she has our support.
Board of Supervisors District 3: Danny Sauter
Danny has a decade of experience within his district. His strong stances on housing, public safety, and transit recommend him highly and he is certain to do an excellent job representing and revitalizing a part of the city that has been ravaged since 2020.
Board of Supervisors District 5: Bilal Mahmood
Yes, highly predictable, we know. D5 has a terrible incumbent supervisor. Yet Bilal does not receive our endorsement purely by clearing that low bar. He would be a reliable voice for housing, safe streets, and efficient government if elected.
Board of Supervisors District 7: No endorsement
Unfortunately, no candidate stands out in District 7 as aligning with our values. Though the various contenders each have strengths and weaknesses, none have earned an endorsement on their own merits or to keep their opponent out of city hall.
Board of Supervisors District 9: Trevor Chandler #1, Roberto Hernandez #2
Trevor Chandler is a standout advocate for streamlining housing construction, tackling crime, and rooting out corruption in government. His hard work and thoughtful position-taking has earned our support.
We are also endorsing Roberto Hernandez as the #2 vote on the D9 ballot. Though his policy positions are not optimal, all things considered, it is clear from his lifetime working in The Mission that he cares deeply for his community and would make a fine supervisor.
Board of Supervisors District 11: Michael Lai #1, Ernest “EJ” Jones #2
It’s a joy that D11 has two good candidates, but a tragedy that only one can win.
Michael gets our #1 pick for his advocacy for housing and public safety, while EJ gets our #2 for his lifelong dedication to his community.
